MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities say a man was arrested Thursday for allegedly attacking a woman with a hammer in an incident north of the Twin Cities.
The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 7200 block of Camp Three Road in Columbus on a report of an assault. When officers arrived, a witness said they stopped for a vehicle that was in the ditch and that the male occupant of the car had assaulted the female occupant with a hammer, and she was covered in a large amount of blood.
The suspect then fled the scene and was followed by the witness for a short time.
The 25-year-old woman was taken to Regions Hospital and is expected to survive. The suspect was caught several hours later hiding in a large wooded area nearby. The suspect will be evaluated for cold weather exposure as conditions were frigid and he was not properly dressed for the cold. The man will eventually be taken to the Anoka County Jail.
The suspect and victim have not been identified, and the incident remains under investigation.
